Clips to secure helper springs to rear radius arms
Hello Nick, Found some of these for sale on eBay. Go to Parts for classic cars then add Mini and tick the box to serch both together. Failing that, you can drill a small hole through the protruding shaft and simply fit a suitable washer and split pin to hold the springs in place. Failing that, try a wanted advert in Practical Classic Magazine or any of the well known classic car mags (most are free).Or give Tim a call at MiniMail.

Have a look at www.archive.org and put that address in the wayahead thingy - it caches websites and I think you can still get that particular site off there. Hope it works!

The bushes are worn and need replacing by an engineering shop.
This is not something you can do yourself unless you are a mechanical engineer with the right equipment and experience to know how to use it as well as aquiring/ making new bushes to the correct dimentions and tolerances.
However there are replacment armss available on this site in the shop, I believe...

rear radius arms seized up
my mini just had its MOT and went through first time somehow, but apparantly the rear radius arms have seized up, which is a kick in the groin, does anyone know much about getting them repaired/whats involved in getting them done

This is unusual, as they normally just get badly worn and flop about. The problem is always lack of grease - there is a grease nipple that sticks out of the end of the radius arm bearing and you must grease it regularly - strange how many people just ignore it!
I would start by soaking the end of the arm in WD40/penetrating oil. Scrape all the crud off and see if you can move the arm at all (use a jack or lever to get a bit of force on it). If it moves, you should try greasing the nipple, and easing the arm up and down - hopefully it will free itself up.

the garage that did my mot said theres probably no hope with the arms, yeah i got a gun, but the nipples wouldnt pop and let anything in, so i thought i'd let them check it out when i took it in, unfortunately i dont have any ramps and limited equipment at home, but i know someone who works on minis, i'll see if he can try and release them.

If the nipples are seized that's a sure sign they haven't seen any grease for a while! Of course, they just unscrew, so it's simple to replace them.
If the arms are seized completely you will have to take them off and probably get exchange ones. They're not that expensive (£26 plus vat) but it all adds up doesn't it?

yeah i did some calling about, got a quote for 30 quid per arm and 60 quid fitting per side, its expensive, but the cheapest quote i got

£60 quid per side i reckon is cheap i am in the process of changing rear subframe and obviously need to remove radius arms every bolt holding the end plates on broke off when undoing them , the nuts on the ends of the large pins were seized as well as brake pipes and other bits siezed
make sure the £60 includes any broken bolts and repaires
good luck mark

There is supposed to be a bush in the one end and a roller pin bearing in the other, the bush needs to be reamed out using the correct size adjustable reamer. The best thing to do is to fit your bush and bearing and take the arm to a machine shop or a competant garage who may have reamers and get them to do it for you.Fitting two bearings in the arm aint a bad thing,it's just that they don't last as long, metro's were fitted with bearings both sides and they used to eat them. The answer is to keep all the joints well greased.
